The WomenCentre is looking for a creative woman to work within the multi-cultural setting of the Women’s Asylum and Refugee Service.
16 hours / week contract. Must be available to work Fridays.
Salary: £ 25,262.15 pro rata (pay award pending)
It is a genuine occupational qualification that a female takes on this role, and the post is exempt under Section 7 (2) (e) of the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.
The Asylum and Refugee Therapeutic Service
The Asylum and Refugee Service offers a unique multi-disciplinary service to women seeking asylum, refugees and their children. The holistic approach embraces crisis intervention, long-term support, preventative work and practical assistance. The therapeutic specialist service is a newly emerging service. It will offer several strands of support for women seeking asylum and refugees who are survivors of rape and sexual violence.

The purpose of the post is:
- To develop and deliver creative therapeutic support work for women seeking asylum and refugees who have experienced rape, torture and other forms of violence in their home countries.To develop group work sessions for women refugees who are affected by rape and sexual violence using holistic approaches in a multi-cultural context.
- To produce and disseminate a mini-book with women and girls who have been affected by sexual violence. This will use creative and artistic approaches. The book is aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence.
- To recruit and develop the roles of peer-support volunteers.
- To ensure service users and volunteers are actively involved in the planning, evaluation and developments of the service.
- To work with other workers and volunteers within the service as part of a team, including the Parental Support Worker.
- To ensure project objectives are achieved, evaluated and reported.
- To line manage and supervise volunteers of the project.
- To work to sustain and develop work in this area.
